Bangs in the US is the same as fringe in the UK.

And to complicate this further, fringe in the US is what bald men have around the edges (sides and back).

You want it complicated?
The Germans call bangs/fringe a Ponyfrisur (pony cut) but a ponytail is a Pferdeschwanz (horse tail).
Must be lots of other complications in other languages.
