Need encouragement

I have read many of your posts and think many of you have great looking hair, tells other guys that their hair looks good is something I don't usually do. Anyway I have long hair and am about ready to cut it off because I am about the only one of my friends that keep it long. They give me grief about it all the time and I think its about time. I like my hair (very heavy dark blonde with a slight curl) but getting tired of the problems an upkeep. They want to have a haircut party and shear it off. Brad (weak moment)

In the end the decision is yours, but cutting it because you feel like you have to is a bad idea. You should never due something because you were pressured into it, you'll end up regretting it. Its a big step to take when you hair is long. Plus from what you described it sounds like you have some damn fine hair. Good luck with the decision.

I went ahead and did it, I had it cut short. I went to a small barbershop in a place called Hyde Park to get it done. I braided it (which I usually don't do) so I could keep it. I really like my new haircut which is over the ears with my sideburns left. This haircut makes my neck look wider and more masculine. The worst was when he was trying to cut through the bulk of my hair; the braid cut off was 11" and thick to the very end. I still like the way long hair looks on some guys, but mine was too much to maintain and I kinda like my more masculine look.

I doubt you would be posting to this board if cutting your hair were something you really wanted to do. My advice, keep it growing. You'll regret it if you cut it.

I think if you like your hair you should make every effort to keep it. Definitely follow the "two-week rule." (If you decide to cut your hair, give yourself two weeks to think about it and not change your mind.)
It may be possible to minimize the upkeep problems. Tell us more about them and we may have some suggestions to make it easier.

I don't know what the two week rule is, but I'd say don't cut it because of peer pressure. Especially at a haircut party. There are days my long hair doesn't "behave", but I still will keep it. However, the decision is up to you. Good Luck.

it's your hair. your friends seem to have some sort of unhealthy fixation on its length. tell them to go ahead and have their party but don't expect you to show. wearing long (or short) hair isn't about getting approval from others- it's about what you want; being yourself expressing who you are NOT wearing someone else's hairstyle because they don't like your hair long. it's not their hair. it's your hair.

If YOU are tired of the upkeep and decide you want to cut it- follow the two week rule: If you can go two weeks without ever NOT wanting to cut it, then go ahead. You say you like your hair, so be VERY sure before you do anything you may regret. I don't think you'd write a "need encouragement" post if you really wanted to cut it.
If you want to do this because of your friends, well... You are the one who has to look in the mirror everyday and decide if you like what you see or not. If you like having long hair and your friends don't, then keep it long and tell them to F off. If they're real friends they'll accept you for what you are; if not, then they only like you because you are just like them and are going to be threatened by anything you do that's different.
Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

sounds to me like what you need is some new (and better) friends not a haircut.

Hey, man. All the other replies to your posting are right on the money about what you should do. Believe me, if you cut it you will regret it. Especially after knowing what it is like to have long hair. I am now on my totally determined attempt that I am going to grow my hair long! I have never really had what you could consider to be "long hair". But in the next year and a half I will have. Gauranteed!! I have had it flat-topped since that picture several times and for the same reason that you are contemplating cutting your hair: Peer pressure (and because my hair is so thick). I've had my hair under-cut a few times in the past where the top was slightly below my ears but then I would cut it. I have regreted it every time I've cut it. My wife likes my hair longer and she totally supports me in this determination I have for finally growing it long. REALLY LONG!! The guys at work give me sarcastic crap but all I do is laugh and joke along with them. Don't do it, man, unless it is totally your decision. Also do the two week thing and if you still want to cut it without once changing your mind, then God be with you, but if once you think to yourself "Man, cutting this cool stuff is crazy talk!" then by all means, DON'T DO IT!! I would encourage you to keep it. If you do want to try
something new, why not use the length to try out different
cuts. If you don't like it you can always keep cutting.

I turned down plenty of offers to have my hair cut off at hair cut parties by friends-I never did it, though. I figured that I've always hated professional hair cuts at the barber, so my friends that don't know how to cut hair are gonna really mess me up. They know that-the jokes gonna be on u if u let THEM cut it. Ditto on the above posts BTW.
Oh, I finally did get my hair cut after 7 years of growth because I thought it would get me a job. Wrong-I went through 2 1/2 years of under and unemployment with short hair. I've been growing it back for the last 21 months because I regret cutting it-every time u see a longhair, u cann't help but feel regret.

My hair was 8 months-1 year long (and it grow quite fast) and I was about to become a longhair. Then, I tought that finding a job was more important, so I stupidly shaved it two months ago! But the problem is that I NEVER GOT A JOB! So now I have short hair but thank god it starts to grow a little. Im serious this time, I think I will beat my record of 4 years ago. I am 22 by the way:)

Dude, you WILL regret it. Do NOT, I repeat, do NOT let them do it. Besides, they may be thinking of growing theirs out, which means that you'll be the only one with short hair. And you'll get sh*t for that too. Who cares what they think?

It sounds to me as though you don't want to cut your hair. Your 'friends' just want to make you do something you don't want to do.
You have more friends on this site who are all telling you to do what you really want, not have choices made for you by others.

Here in UK it looks like long hair for men is coming back in fashion. You might cut your hair only to find that your friends begin growing theirs before long! Cheers!
