Womans Bob Haircut

Hello,
I am a male who wears his hair in a womans below the chin bob hairstyle. The reason I wear it that way is because I wear two hearing aids and people make fun of me if they see it. Or, they act in a condescending manner around me after they see them. I asked my hair cutting lady about any styles that would cover them up and she came up with this style. I like it and people seem to treat me a little better. But, now they are getting on me because I now wear my hair in a bob. I explained to my family members why I do it but they want me to get a business mans haircut. This would show the whole world my aids which is why I grew my hair out. I keep it clean, trimmed, and styled. Actually, it isn't a womans style, it's just that women wear this style more than guys do. I wish people would leave other people alone about their hair. I am doing it for a reason but it doesn't seem to matter to most people.

I can't believe the world is filled with such idiots! And your family, I'm sure they have good intentions, you should politely explain that they are not walking in your shoes dealing firsthand with the criticism, so it has to be your decision on how to deal with it.

And you are right, women don't own the rights to that hair cut. You are smart to realize that you don't have to follow a standard just because everyone else thinks it's an unspoken rule.

You didn't say, but I'm guessing that you're still in school? I say this because people who have graduated high school and are living on their own usually have grown up a bit and aren't worried about hearing aids and such. They have more self esteem by this time and don't need to put those around them down to make themselves seem important.

I know everyone here would be more than willing to help you deal with criticism, so stick around. That's what I think this board is for, shattering stereotypes and staying true to yourself despite criticism.

I just read my post and realized it almost sounds as if I'm saying YOU'RE immature. I hope you understood what I really meant, which is that the JACKASSES AROUND YOU wouldn't worry about whether you have hearing aids or not if they had maturity. They're trying to distract from their self-consciousness by making you feel self-conscious. I wish I had more help to offer. Just make sure you have something to help you deal with this in your own way. Like I said, I'm willing to listen anytime, you know where to find me!

If people treat you better and you like the style, you ought to have it! The same would go if you had a huge ugly red birthmark on the back of your neck, man. In the family, you've perhaps disrupted the pecking order a bit (now they can't put you down for being what they felt was ugly) and this may make them uncomfortable. "Feeling good about yourself" and "getting treated better" are both situations that will make you a stronger person and thus also the family. If you don't cut your hair, your family unit will survive the ordeal. :-)
If you don't have any facial hair, you might try growing a bit. Nothing beats a mustache or beard to defeminize anything. Wearing clothes or other items that are particularly male in appearance will also help.

That's right - both sexes are endowed with long hair. (Thank God for that!) If you have straight hair and you cut it at shoulder length, a bob is what you're going to get. A lot of women probably go for that length because it's seen as "short" for traditional women, and maybe that is why the large cluster of females at that length. Men, on the other hand, tend to go with very short hair styles, or they go well beyond the awkward stage into a length where they can tie it all in a tail. You may, therefore, also look more typically male if you grow your hair a bit longer. Even if you don't wish to ponytail it and thereby reveal your aids, you will nevertheless find more male company at such a length because most other longhaired men do want the option to ponytail.

Yeah, and opposing your reason carries some shades of an A.D.A. discrimination. Part of not discriminating against disabled people is accepting them the way they look. Outfits can't toss out guys in wheelchairs because they think the chairs are ugly, but discrimination when you look different is a fact of life and still happens. If you can minimize that difference and thus that discrimination in your case by growing hair, by all means stick to your guns, man.

Give up this hearing aid fantasy and assert that you loke long hair, and send out the message that even though youd do not need hearing aids all the time that you want people to know that you may be displaying a great new hair style for guys who really like their hair over their ears. I am 67 years old, still very handsome, in a relationship with a yo9unger guy, not because he is younger, but because this is as good as it gets.
I wear earrings, currently amber which I found on a recent trip to Russhia.
I think few people notice, and those who do say that Dr. _____ is so helpful that I could not care lesss about how many earrings he shas.
