Need advice or suggestions

Made a mistake and went to have my hair trimmed...been growing out a previous mullet, trying to get my hair all one length.
My stylist usually is very good and I usually am pleased with the results, however, this time he suggested an undercut so as my hair would look neater for work when pulled back into a ponytail.
I am unhappy with the results...I feel he shaved my neck way too high and that this looks really stupid. This might look OK on a younger person, but I am 45 years old.
Though I do not want to, I am considering cutting it all off and starting over.

No, I would suggest don't cut it all off. I think it would make you unhappy to loose all of it (assuming you like it long). This shaved part will grow out. I have no problems to wear it open (it's around my neck, hair length about 20 cm), although there exist only two male person with long(er) hairs in my firm, most of the people have very short hair but it seems so that I am accepted as a "long haired one". (I am 47).

Just wear it down, or tie it lower (closer to your collar), and it won't be nearly so obvious. You have plenty of hair to hide the mistake.

MARK--
I would be irritated too. It happened to me once, gradually. I learned to tell people not accustomed to my hair not to cut a single hair without permission.
Though my hair is brown, I have discovered if I bleach the hair on the back of my neck that is below the hair line, that it looks neater and is almost invisible.
